Apple's new iPhone 5S and 5C and last year's iPhone 5 are alike in many ways. All three phones have a touch screen measuring 4 inches (10 centimeters) diagonally, with a resolution of 326 pixels per inch. That pixel density is better than Apple's iPads, though not as good as Samsung's flagship Galaxy S4.  

The iPhone 5 and 5S are identical in size and weight, while the 5C is slightly bigger and heavier. The iPhone 5S is identical in price to what the iPhone 5 cost when it was introduced last year, while the 5C is $100 cheaper.

Battery life is comparable. Talk time is boosted on the 5C and 5S, as is Internet use over LTE cellular connections. Video playback and Internet use over Wi-Fi remain the same. Like all previous models, the battery on the new phones can be replaced only by service personnel.

Main differences

The main differences: The 5S has a fingerprint sensor, a better camera and a faster processor, while the 5C comes in five colors and uses plastic instead of aluminum and glass for its casing.

India's first solar park where????? In my Gujarat.....Charanka village

Gujarat accounts for 66% of India's total solar power. The country's first Solar Park came up at Charanka village in Gujarat in April 2012. The park at Charanka, spread across 5,000 acres, has 500 MW of generation capacity of both solar and wind energy.

Solar project developers like Alex Astral, US-based Sun Edison, Lanco Solar, Roha Dyechem and GMR Gujarat Solar Power have set up plants in the park. While 214 MW of grid connected solar power was commissioned at Charanka by 17 national and international companies, 10 solar plants having combined generation capacity of 87.49 MW have gone on stream in Surendranagar, 8 in Kutch (85 MW) and three each in Banaskantha (55.20 MW) and Rajkot (25MW), amongst others.

In addition to solar energy, the park also manufactures solar power plant panels and other related equipment. It also provides training to local people of Gujarat to work at solar parks.

Samsung Galaxy Gear

nly time will tell whether smartwatches, such as the one Samsung introduced last week, catch on. As Neil Mawston at Strategy Analytics told Bloomberg News, "If you see your friend wearing a cool smartwatch on their wrist, you will probably want one, too."

But is the Galaxy Gear cool enough to fork over $299, even if it, uh, might lack a real purpose? For that price, you get a watch with a 1.63-inch screen, 1.9-megapixel camera, 4 gigabytes of internal memory and 512 megabytes of RAM. It links wirelessly to a smartphone to make calls.

For $300 to $350, Qualcomm is also selling a connected wristwatch called Toq. It comes with wireless charging and an always-on screen. The biggest maker of chips for mobile phones is doing this to show off its display technology called Mirasol. Sony already has its SmartWatch that syncs with Android handsets.

The SmartWatch 2 will reach stores this month, and can be used as a second screen for the Xperia Z1 smartphone, Sony said last week. Of course, there's also Apple, which has a team of designers working on a watch-like device, two people familiar with the matter said in February.

Apple has sent out invitations to a September 10 event to announce new iPhones, a person familiar with the plans said. And tech companies aren't the only ones banking on smartwatches amid a market saturation of highend smartphones.

Asian freight airlines, suffering from a traffic slump of six consecutive months, may be able to break their losing streak as device makers rush to deliver their new products from factories in Asia ahead of the Christmas shopping season. But as always, that will depend on consumers and whether they jump out of bed to buy these smartwatches, or instead, choose to slap the snooze button.
